Giulia Pellegrini
We live in an era where nature is reduced to images on screens, scrolling before our eyes without leaving a trace.
We glance at a tree, a sunset, or the ocean, yet often view them as distant backdrops, forgetting that they are vibrant worlds inhabited by countless forms of life engaged in dialogue with one another. These existences make our lives possible: trees and oceans provide oxygen, while the earth and animals sustain us.
My work arises from the urgency to restore in human beings the awareness of belonging to a network of relations that both traverses and transcends us. We are not separate entities, but bodies in dialogue with other bodies—elements of an ecosystem in constant transformation. As Anna L. Tsing reminds us, every landscape is a polyphonic assemblage in which humans, plants, animals, fungi, and microorganisms coexist and continually shape one another.
Through installations and performances, I create spaces where the audience is invited to move, touch, listen, and immerse themselves. Experience becomes an act of awareness: each gesture reawakens our sense of interdependence with nature and reveals the responsibility we share in maintaining the balance that sustains us. My environments are places of encounter, where the senses converse with matter and make visible what we often forget: our belonging to a larger living organism.
Textile is the medium through which this vision takes shape. Like skin, it lives, reacts, and changes. Dyed with natural pigments, it absorbs the passage of time and the surrounding environment, becoming a trace, a memory, and a relation. Fabric transforms observation into contact, bringing human beings back into confrontation with living matter and with their role in the world.
My work invites us to reopen ourselves to listening, to let the body remember what the mind has forgotten. Each gesture reactivates the perception of the invisible network that binds us together. And it is within this perceptive threshold that we rediscover the connection we share with every form of existence.
